Just ask Rhona
THE countdown to the Cutty Sark Tall Ships' visit to Lerwick began in earnest on April 10th with the opening of an information office in the town centre.

The new office at the Scottish Hydro Electric Esplanade showroom is open to the public every weekday afternoon until the end of June, and full-time thereafter. In the hot seat is Rhona Bulter, from Scalloway, who is currently studying an HNC in Business Administration at Shetland College of Further Education. She is there to answer all your questions about the fleet's visit. Go along and pick up the event programme, which is packed with information on the many activities, exhibitions, dances and musical treats which are being laid on for visitors, public and tall ships' crews.

Grace notes
A NEW play by renowned writer and director Grace Barnes will be performed at the Garrison Theatre, Lerwick, in August. Shetland audiences will be able to see the new work before it is taken south to the Edinburgh Festival.

"Wir Midder Da Sea" is set on a beach in Shetland and is the story of three women. They are of different generations, but each is connected to the others, and to the sea. Two of the women will be played by local actresses Jane Moncrieff and Marnie Baxter. The third has not yet been confirmed. Sanna Isbister, from Trondra is in charge of the costumes. The play is expected to run for a fortnight in Lerwick -- the week before the tall ships' visit and the week of the event. Grace, currently on tour as Resident Director for Cameron Mackintosh's production of the musical "Martin Guerre", said she "can't wait" to come home. She has formed the "Skeklers Theatre Company" to perform the new play.
