Red stars at night -

IT'S GOING to be a great summer. So good, in fact, that there will be palm trees on Bressay, and golden willows swaying under a sky of red stars. Of course, trouble in paradise is not unknown. There could be a touch of thunder, drawing out the night beasts - the poisonous spiders and titanium serpents. But don't be afraid, not even when you hear the hummers and screamers. Just look to the sky and watch as the masts of 100 tall ships are lit up in spectacular style.

Just after 10pm on Wednesday 11th August you will witness the biggest and best firework display ever seen in Shetland.
Sponsored by the Bank of Scotland, the imaginatively-named fireworks will be set off from Bressay shortly after the Grand Viking Procession through Lerwick. The preferred firing site is the Hill of Cruester, but two alternatives have been lined up. Which site is used will depend on the weather that night.

Islesburgh's Fireworks Ignition Crew will be lighting the shells, along with The Fireworks Company, from Devon, who are putting the display together. They will play the shells towards the harbour, so the best vantage points will be right along the piers and Esplanade. If it is a fine night, the lights should be seen as far north as Unst.
